BIODANIA
History
Biodania is the organisation for producers of organical grown fruit and vegetables.
Biodania was founded i 1993 for the purpose of co-ordinating production and sale to supermarket chains in Denmark.
To start with, Biodanica was more of a coordinating organisation than one in retail.
However, during the course of the last few years, we have found it necessary to change the structure to include a separate retail department.
We still retain the advantages and flexibility of a de-central construction, where many of the individual members have the personal responsibility for the daily contact with supermarket stores etc. and only where it is appropriate for both parties, does Biodania step in and take over both purchase and sale - e.g with regard to products for export.
Biodania today
Today, Biodania have 20 members, the majority of whom were the pioneers from the end of the 70's to the early 80's, so this gives us an extremely broad experience in the field.
This expertise enables us to live up in full, to even the most stringent demands on our abilities.
We grow more than 40 different organic products and 4 large and 4 to 5 smaller packing centres ensure daily, that the products are delivered on time and in the correct amounts and quality.
For this reason, we are equipped today to fulfil all possible requirements, whether the customer comes from industry, office canteens and/or catering or from retail shops and supermarket chains.
Credibility
Since the Danish growing season is short as regards the majority of the products, Biodania producers started very early on, to import organic fruit and vegetables from abroad.
As a security against possible fraud in the branch, we make sure first and foremost, that we KNOW the producers that we buy from.
This is why, right from the beginning, we have concentrated on building up a large number of contacts, each of whom we have visited and checked out before placing orders.
We also purchase from producer to producer but again, only from people we know and have visited.
Only very rarely, do we make exceptions to this rule and buy through wholesalers, but here again, only when we already know the producer.
Pure organic
In order to prevent any possible mixing of organic and conventional products, only organic fruit and vegetables are grown, handled, packed, bought and sold by Biodania.
At the moment, this security against possible mixing of products, is not demanded by law, but it is our determined opinion that this would be best.
Biodania hold that this criteria is vital for the purchaser of organic fruit and vegetables so they can have assurance of the genuineness regarding these special goods.
The consumer
As is apparent from the above, we make consideration for the consumer, our first priority.
Not least since we are aware that this is often not taken sufficiently seriously in many shops and supermarket chains.
In these times where all kinds of rumours and theories regarding our food and health abound, where credibility, or lack of same is often at question, we can see that an important part of our role is to ensure that we stand out from the crowd as representing only the best and highest quality - together with reliability.
There is, it appears, no one else doing this!
